Katherine

Hi, I’m Katherine. I’ve worked for Whippersnappers for 17 years.

I first started in the ‘Rasta Santa Christmas show’. Then I trained as an under 5-year-olds Music Tutor in 2008. Since then I have enjoyed performing storytelling such as The Anancy stories which are traditional stories that originated from Ghana. I have had a fantastic time being part of the Christmas grotto and fairyland. As well as this, I work in the playscheme and I am a party entertainer.

I am a professional actress and trained at The Guildhall School of Music and
Drama – Recipient of the Gold Medal – www.spotlight.com/interactive/cv/8012-4531-1109

I absolutely love working for Whippersnappers because it’s so much fun. What
I enjoy about the baby and toddler classes is seeing the children role-play as
they dress up as a character in the songs. For example, dressing up as ducks
and pretending to swim in ‘5 Little Ducks’. It’s also great to see the grownups
joining in too and interacting with their child/children as their imaginations
run free.

I am also involved in the Whippersnappers Theatre department helping write and
perform theatre shows and storytelling sessions. I love playing the part of   Anancy and have worked with Whippersnappers to devise a series of traditional Caribbean stories which we deliver in nurseries, schools, and theatres.

One of my favourite Whippersnapper theatrical projects was devising and performing a youth theatre performance called “African Diaspora” which we toured in secondary schools and sixth form colleges.

Lockdown was fun too. Our online zoom team worked together to create a library of Whippersnapper videos for our Whippersnapper Live TV channel. Every week we offered free interactive live zoom sessions where we screened all our new videos and had fun drumming, dancing and chatting to the children and grownups.

I regularly work as a sessional drama/ music tutor at the Whippersnapper SEND playschemes and am really committed to ensuring all the children have fun and are able to participate, whatever their needs, in creative activities.

Oh yes and I’m a party entertainer too!

I cannot wait to be back singing and dancing again in January 2022.
